Veronica Campbell-Brown: Double-Winner at 200 Meters

Campbell-Brown didn’t make the Jamaican Olympic team at 100 meters in 2008, but the sprinting ace made her only event count in Beijing, winning the 200 in a personal best time of 21.74 seconds. She had to settle for silver at the 2009 World Championships, where she finished second to Allyson Felix.

Campbell-Brown and American Lauryn Williams both finished in 11.01 seconds at the 2007 World Outdoor Championships. A photo was, literally, needed to determine that Campbell-Brown had edged Williams for the 100-meter gold medal.

Round Two:

Williams isn’t the only American to narrowly lose to Campbell-Brown. Felix was .13 seconds behind the Jamaican in the 2004 Olympic 200, which Campbell-Brown won in 22.05 seconds.

Career highlights:

In addition to her individual gold medal victories at the 2004 and '08 Olympics and 2007 World Championships, Campbell-Brown earned a 4 x 100-meter relay gold and a 100-meter bronze medal in Athens. Campbell-Brown was second in both the 200 and the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 2007 World Championships. She won a 4 x 100 silver at the 2000 Olympics. In 2004 she won the NCAA Indoors 200-meter title for the University of Arkansas.
